Fling
Define a new app experience, increase content creation, boost retention and foster community in a new type of social media app.
Intro
Fling was a messaging app that let users send random messages to 50 people worldwide. It gained 5 million users in 10 months and was available on iOS, Android, and Responsive Web.
My role
My team was in charge of redefining Fling's unique selling point and rebuilding the Fling brand and user journey, increasing user engagement, content creation, and retention. After the app was removed from the app store, the team had one week to achieve this goal. I was responsible for defining the app’s first-time user experience and interaction design.

How to Fling
We created tutorials. Fling introduced some innovative concepts for interaction design. New users found it challenging to understand these unique interactions, which resulted in a low conversion rate. The stakeholders were keen on retaining these special interactions as they believed they added to Fling's identity.
Fun to Fling
In our goal to foster community and increasing content creation and boost retention we created interactions and features that allowed popular content to trend and delighted users. Re-flinging (reposting) and an interactive map.
Fling revamp
After the Fling app was removed from the app store due to guidelines, the team had to redevelop the app concept, redefining within those boundaries. We had the task of keeping what our users loved about the app while meeting the guidelines and restrictions and addressing users' issues with the original app. Fling 2.0 was launched with success.
