MONSTER BALL
Monster Ball is a pong inspired arena game for up to 4 players. It’s a local party game where players take control of 1 of 6 unique monsters and compete in hilarious and intense team matches.
Intro
I aimed to design and develop a local multiplayer co-op experience that my friends and I could enjoy. The core design principle was to create a game that was easy to pick up and hard to master
My role
As the project lead, I took on many different roles, from game designer and UI/UX designer to social media manager and more. I also worked closely with the developer on the project, conceptualising game mechanics and planning project milestones.
Responsibilities
Project Manager, Game Designer, UI/UX, Social Media Manager, Sound Designer, Playtester, QA, Level Designer, Illustrator, Animator.
User Interface
I aimed to create a fun on theme interface that was easy to understand and gave clear instructions but most importantly allowed players to get into the game as quickly as possible.
Level development
Early-level blocking and art are important when testing players' ability to comprehend the level geometry and focal points. The main goal when developing these levels is to create fun experiences for the players.
Testing everywhere
I created a portable console kit that allowed me to travel across London, testing the game and gathering player feedback wherever I could pull out a controller. Pubs and offices are great places to gather feedback and make observations.
